Character Creation Fatigue
Thanks to my procrastinatory tendencies, I often leave things too long and the work piles up. Case in point is creating characters for convention games.Typically, I get two or three good ideas for characters that I get really excited about and wish I could play myself. Those ideas run around in my head for months or weeks. Catchphrases and mannerisms start forming in my conceptions of them. Usually some less exciting ideas for the other three characters -- I like to have six characters max in my... Read More

Heroes of Falcon’s Hollow
I made 5 characters for the Pathfinder adventures D0: Hollow's Last Hope and D1: Crown of the Kobold King. I hope to run the modules in the next couple of weeks and post the results of the adventures. The backgrounds for these characters were meant to weave the heroes into the community of Falcon's Hollow and/or explain how they came to choosing their class. Enjoy and tell me which is your favorite. Eja Clayborne is close with the Eavewalker Family. Idris was an old frie... Read More

His cultist’s mark is a long cut across his right palm, which he usually covers with a glove. There are times when the... Read More

Reflections on Character Creation in Ravenloft
Well, reflecting on StupidSmurf's Dumb Name Syndrome blog entry I started thinking about a latter day scenario I encountered during my overly long tenure as a Dungeon Master. It goes something like this: Me: So what's your character's name? Player: Priest. Me: But he's a... Player: Fighter, yeah, but see his name ties in. Me: I see... Player: He's called Priest because he kills every priest he meets! Me: Every priest? Player: Yes, he champi... Read More

Khel explains herself (a little)
For some reason, any time a woman goes to sea, some man feels he must speculate as to why. As if the freedom of the waves, the promise of adventure, and the opportunity for great welath don't apply to women. Idiots. I love the sea. The swell of the deck beneath my boots, the wind in my face, the screams of the gulls, the exultation of sunrise, the extreme overwhelming force of a storm. It's what I live for, and the gods help any man who keeps me from it. Although I suppose, in a way,... Read More
