The "Mentor" role... what'd I ever do?
For all my years of living with the self-inflicted curse of a love of writing, I have always liked the term "hack" when it came to myself. Don't ask me why, but I have gone out of my way to avoid "going literary" or become a "Man of Words." This is probably because of a serious lack of talent, but hey that never stopped me from doing anything. Infact, I spent many years studying the more accomplished critically-acclaimed "hacks" of history. Hey I was into Clark Ashton Smith before I knew who H.P... Read More

Rules writing and such.
I've decided I'm at an impasse with my GM's chapter. I know so many people know "all" of this stuff already, and then so many people don't. I mean at least if they know it, they aren't acting on it. The best advice I have to give is "talk to your players..." and 'play with friends." Simple, short, and exactly what I mean.I've got more to add, but I think I'm going to hire out for part of it. I've talked to a writer and think it will allow me more time to work on the things I know well, and don't... Read More

This week on Dark Heresy Theater...
Last time we joined up with the party of Inquisitor Acolytes they were about to ascend a flight of stairs deeper into the techno-catacombs... As they reached the top of the stairs they came to what appeared to be a throne chamber. The ceiling was draped in cables and foul xeno-tech. At the very center hovered an empty throne held aloft by evil forces. For a second the machinery around them flickered to life, with a hologram of the galaxy coming into focus above them. Amongst the stars strange... Read More

Skirmish '08 report
Well, Skirmish '08 is now come and gone. The stress of putting a game together, building the terrain, painting the figures, and trying to entertain some gamers is gone until next year. Skirmish is primarily a historicals convention and this is its third year and they have always been kind enough to allow my decidedly cracked games in and it's been commented that each year the game gets better and better. Well, practice does help as I never ran a game at a convention before I signed up for S... Read More

Doing Spaghetti Westerns
There has been a rejuvenation of interest in 'Wild West' role-playing in my realms of existence over the past two years. First off, the Western RPG Aces and Eights came out nearly a year ago, with its plastic aiming screen. And a bit closer to my T&T fellowship, James Shipman, of Outlaw Press fame, has been working up a Western-Style version of T&T rules, so far culminating in a solo-adventure published in his great mag The Hobbit Hole. And I, myself, have been dabbling a bit into post C... Read More
