Richard Lee Byers
Over the past few years, I have been picking up the novels of this guy. And I have to say, Byers goes places where I like to think about. I wasn't wild about his Dissolution (2002), but it was set in the Drow spheres of influence in the Underdark of the Forgotten Realms. He did really get into the mindset of the Drow, and work on some pretty large scale sub-plots. I have no real recollection of where The Black Bouquet (2003) was set in the Forgotten Realms, but the story I did like... Read More

My FR Campaign
Well this is my current campaign which will be ending sometime this year (after 12 years of play), but of course that depends on how crazy my player's decide to get. Incidentally, this will be one hell of a long entry, as it will be the compiling several months of game in brief capsules, so to speak. I'll add new entires in a normal way after this. Oh and I realize... Read More

Curmudgeonly Ramblings: Assembling a Campaign
As promised in my previous blog entry, this one deals with how I approach a campaign, design an adventure, and what my characteristic quirks are. We had our first session of our newest campaign this past Saturday (Recap to come later), so since I have campagin design fresh in my mind, let's jump in! When I start planning a campaign (and we're talking D&D here), I usually ask myself three questions: "What have I already done?" "What do my players like?" "How can I take th... Read More

Cyberpunk and the Advancement of Reality
Alright, so there are two things that I really love. The first is cyberpunk and all its trappings: the neon and the chrome, baby. The second is bleeding edge technology. When I read a cyberpunk book or get into a world like Shadowrun I get very excited about the real-world possibility that is only decades away. I can't help but say "ooh, look! I'm already seeing the baseline in technology for this!"You'd be surprised at how much has already come from cyberpunk and other sci-fi, too! The cell pho... Read More
