Brutal Game!
Last Sunday's game was brutal!  Currently, I'm running the 4th edition module Scepter Tower of Spellgard.  I'm using this module so that it gives me a chance to get used to the new rules system.  However, I like to tweak, add/take out, and generally personalize stuff when I run modules.  Reading through the adventure, I noticed that it seemed a little tough for 2nd level characters.  So, I cut it down a notch and did some revisions so that it lines up with some of the goals that the party has.  Nonetheless, as the party progressed, they got hammered.  Despite this pounding, I felt it was a great game.

Next weekend I'm supposed to play in an old school 2nd edition D&D game with some high school buddies that I haven't seen in a long time.  If we can pull it off (scheduling is still a little sketchy), I think we will have a great time.  However, I hope we don't totally revert back to the crazy rules-breaking stunts we used to try with 1st & 2nd edition.  Since I started playing 3rd editon (and now 4th), I really like a bit of realism in my fantasy.  Now I just need to find those 2nd editon books...

On the new book front, third party publishers finally get to release some of their 4th edition books after Oct. 1st.  However, I don't see too many books for the month of October.  Combat Essentials 1: Critical Matters looks like it might be fun to add to our games.  Also, Alea Publishing Group has a book called Noble Multiclass.  They introduce nobles by using a multiclass feat.  Finally, WotC is keeping all their good stuff until November.  It looks like the D&D Insider free trial period will end sometime in October.  While this might be a bad thing, I guess if you subscribe, you'll get all kinds of cool new stuff.  It looks like the Compendium will include content from all 4E books including Adventurer’s Vault and FR Player’s Guide.  Hmm... If anything, I will probably subscribe just so I can still get access to Dragon and Dungeon magazines.
