I've been thinking about that a lot lately. There are plenty of shows to take a theme from that’s for sure. My list below is far from complete.
Masters of the Universe (or She Ra for the ladies out there)
Bravestarr
The Real Ghostbusters (or the Filmation Ghostbusters based on the original live action kid's show. While a huge Filmation Fan this show didn't do much for me except fill the gap between two I wanted to watch)
M.A.S.K.
Bionic 6
Transformers (or Gobots if you must)
Mighty Orbots
GI Joe
Inhumanoids
Robotix
Thundarr the Barbarian
The Herculoids
Battle of the Planets
But also finding players will be a challenge I think. Not because the people I know aren’t good role-players. But because the theme may be considered childish or because of the more looser game mechanics. This game isn’t on the same level as say Amber: The Diceless RPG, but it is more about staying in the theme of an 80’s syndicated cartoon. The mechanics are there but storytelling is the final decider of your outcome. In a way it’s more demanding of the player’s roleplaying skills. And that may be the deal buster for some of my players.
Something else that popped into my head is avoiding giving or letting my player group having the "Blazing Sword" solution for every mission. While I like the show Voltron and Battle of the Planets. It begs the question, if you have this wonderful end-all way of defeating any enemy why not use that right off the bat? I know, then you end up with 5 minute episodes where the heroes form the Fiery Phoenix or Blazing Sword and that just gets dull.
Well that's all I can think of for the moment. Hopefully my typing makes sense cause my cold is trying to kill me.
So now I'm scouring the net for background information, episodes and other-such to make my decision.
