Rolling Up a Character
by Dari

A few weeks ago I got a chance to roll up a character.  As I usually GM, this is a treat, and as a fan of rolling dice it was wonderful bonus.  Of course this is the one week I forget my dice. so I had to use borrowed dice.  No matter, it was a minor thing.

Remember the first time you got to roll a character?  Did you use 3d6 in order, 4d6, or some other combination?  It doesn't matter how you do it, there is just something magical about the sound of dice on a table.  The whole anticipation of letting the dice go to see what your first number would be, followed by the almost holding your breath worry that it will be followed by all single digits.  After all, if your first number was bad your GM would usually be nice and consider it a practice roll.  My first number was a 16, so I was off to a good start and when it was all said and done I had a respectable set of numbers and Katherine, Cleric of Baccob was begun.

While I absolutely hate rolling dice for character creation, I'm probably gonna do it for 4th Edition whenever I start a game.  Its been a very long time since I've heard the clatter of 3d6.

The first time I rolled up a character, it was a practice run at learning how to generate characters for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I honestly forget what kind of creature it turned out to be, except it was very munchkinly with the Bio-E points: about four feet tall and utterly inhuman-looking.

The first character that mattered was a dwarven ranger with a crossbow named Winona -- I was watching a lot of Farscape at the time, all right? I remember the GM allowed 1s to be re-rolled on 4d6, which is still my preferred way of doing things. Shame I haven't met anyone else who agrees.

Look to your left. The latest update to the account page frees up space by moving the dashboard to the left side. It still works the same, it's just slimmer and sexier. And for those of you that don't know it, you can collapse the dashboard by clicking on the header.
