In between the zillions of things I'm doing, I have been thinking about my next campaign and which system I want to run. Originally at the beginning of fall I had an urge to run horror/supernatural. But now I'm drifting towards Cartoon Action Hour
- It's the newest game I own.
- I've been waiting a looooooooooooooooooooong time for this new edition.
- I'm hopelessly in love with 80's cartoons! Duh!
So this last week at crafting night at the FLGS I proposed my current idea. I want to run a Masters of the Universe game but want to avoid playing on Eternia. My solution? Do it on Earth. But CBT, you say, "Earth doesn't have magic!" Saaaayyy it! Alright here's how my rough sketch of the proposed capaign will work.
Skeletor in a 5-episode story arc has managed to get his "Ultimate plan" to near completion. He is literally seconds from throwing the switch/finishing the spell/or some other mcguffin that would make him supreme master of Eternia. He has the royal family, sans Adam, held in a pit or some other prison that he is overconfident will hold them. Queen Marlena escapes. She's thin enough to fit through the bars or light enough to get out of the pit with the King's help. You get the idea.
OK so Skeletor is going on and on about how smart he is and how well his plan is going to He-man who has succumb to one of his devilish tricks. When suddenly the Queen sneaks up behind him and knocks him out with a club or something. This give He-man the chance he needs to recover and free his warrior allies. They then take down Skeletor's goons while he lays unconscious. Skeletor recovers enough to look up and see a circle of heroes all looking down on him. His minions have been defeated and are in an unconscious pile off to one side. Quickly Skeletor casts his famous teleport spell and escapes back to Snake Mountain.
But the heroes haven't given up and all of Eternia has turned it's eyes towards Snake Mountain and the charging armies are massive. The peoples of Eternia have put up with his shananagans for to long and want justice! Skeletor knows defeat is coming. He is also a creature with many irons in the fire and has long wanted to get back at Queen Marlena for defeating him in previous attempts to take control of Eternia. He has fashioned a missile using spells and technology left behind by Hordak and Shadow Weaver. This missile is designed to distort reality and at it's core has a load of enriched coradite. Coradite is an immensely powerful magic element on Eternia. Coradite is also in the harness He-man wears on this chest and boost his incredible strength even more. When the missile detonates in the Earth solar system it brings back to the surface the magic and fantasy lost back in the early ages of Earth. Suddenly the whole of Earth is rewritten. Continents shift, oceans rise and fall and new species suddenly appear. All of Earth is new, bizarre and unknown.
Back on Eternia Skeletor prepares his escape. The good forces of Eternia are storming through the halls of Snake Mountain. The robot guards left to defend it are swept away by the attackers. As He-man and his party near the control room Skeletor throws a lever. The control rooms seals and the snake's jaw closes turning it into a space vehicle. With a blast of fiery thrust he escapes into the universe. It's only later that the heroes figure out what Skeletor has done and how Queen Marlena, Can never go home again...
Hence the name of the campaign. Corny? Probably, but it could be interesting. So the Eternian heroes then go on a quest to find Skeletor so they can discover a way to undo what he has done. This way I can have the players in an Eternian like world, without the "Fiery Phoenix" that is He-man. I can still have lesser Eternian hero character cameos and in general play MotU without the headaches. Yeah I know I'm only kidding myself about the headaches.
On a side note I've been seeing the oddest cross-overs in toys and cartoons. Like who said it was alright to merge my Transformers with Star Wars? Darth Vader-bot that transformers into a Tie-Fighter?? Bah, I say!!!
OK so the other day I'm at a Target department store and wandered into the toy section to see what is new. Low and behold I pick up a GI JOE figure blister. Inside the plastic I see a blond guy with a oddly familiar flight suit. So finally I look at the code name for this guy. IT'S MATT FREAKIN TRACKER!!! Now I'm a fan of M.A.S.K. but when did they merge with GI JOE? Did I miss a cross-over comic or something? Why does the figure carry a machine gun? Matt wears a helmet that fire a ba-zillion degree heat ray. Also does this mean a GI JOE scale car will be forthcoming?
