I may be setting myself up for failure, but I am trying to convert the Dragonstar RPG to the Pathfinder RPG rules. I plan to do it in two parts. A mainly core part that draws from OGL material as well as Pathfinder, and a second part that shows materials I think should fit, but may not be OGL. Since the original DS was prior to d20 Modern/Future, I will be using allot of material from there. I also feel that some of the basic premise of the tech level needs to be rethought. I will asume the setting is a Hard SciFi setting for the science, then use magic to make it more like a Space Opera. I think that the effect on the weapons & technology will be pronounced. Pathfinder eliminates the XP price to make magic items something that could be mass produced to some extent in a modern society. It would be high end, if mainly for craftmanship alone. think of it like the difference between a Toyota Corolla & an Infinity.
Another reason to use d20 Future materials, is the amount of starship products available to use in the setting. I will be limiting which technologies are actually around, as in a standard sub-light drive system & available weapon systems. This would be mainly for ease of conversion. That isnt to say that some omitted systems dont exist, but that they are not widespread. Societies that are purely technological may use them, not having relied on magic to augment their tech base.
