Modern Machines

Just a little rant about how I hate mechanical devices (or they hate me.)

Things just aren't designed to last anymore and many things are over engineered. You need too many tools to work on some modern things, I mean the old Model A needed 1 wrench they gave you and a hammer.

I was working on my lawn tractor, well working on it again. I did get to mow some before the bearings in one of the mower deck blade shafts decided to give up the ghost.  I don't mind working on some things but I just don't have the strength lately after being sick. Old corroded / rusty bolts are just a royal pain. Even using an impact wrench it took time. Now I'm just too tired to run out and check on prices for a replacement. The lawn is almost a foot high in spots, I hate to delay cutting it much longer. This year I will be mowing less area and less often as gas goes out of control.

Maybe I should just by a cow to eat the grass.

....end of rant

Heh. You know I fully believe that somewhere, animistic forces behind mechanisms conspire to rebel against me. The frightening thing? I inherited some of it from my mom. (She can't wear an electronic watch at all--they stop working in a few days at best.)

I honestly think manufactuerers go by the "the lighter the better" design philosophy.  I have a Toro where they came up with some sort of funky two stage design for the push bar that bent within the first month of using the thing so I've had to clamp it together.  Not long after the self-propelled feature gave out.  Of course the bag has to be held on with another clamp or the grass will spew all over my face while mowing, then fall off half full (or half empty if that's you way of looking at things).

At least the cow would give you milk and fertilizer.

Where's the Dashboard?

Look to your left. The latest update to the account page frees up space by moving the dashboard to the left side. It still works the same, it's just slimmer and sexier. And for those of you that don't know it, you can collapse the dashboard by clicking on the header.
