Memoirs of a Marquis Member: Chapter 9: Never a Dull Moment
by Banzai

Chapter 9:  Never a Dull Moment

After a quick nap, everybody gathered in my room.  The Comrade mentioned that it would take a month to get the Pride of Russia fully operational.  This left us a month to figure out how we can to get across the Mediterranean to get to Africa and hook up with any remaining UEG personnel at Fort Hope. The Pride of Russia would need a sea-worthy vessel large enough to carry it across the Mediterranean.  So we decided since we had a month, we would look around in the nearby area for a vessel that would acquire and possible repair for the trip.

I suggested we go to Nice, it was a nearby port town that was a short drive nearby.   Also I had an older sister in Nice that I had not seen for a while too, so for me it enabled me to catch up with the only remaining sister still still on the planet.  So the Comrade, the Doctor, and I decided to take the pick-up to Nice.  The Marine chose to stay behind to finish repairing his Cylone.

We headed out down the road to Nice.  Along the way the Comrade and the Doctor began arguing to each other about how each wanted to do things.  The Comrade complained that the Doctor was too undisciplined to be effective in a stressful situation.  The Doctor (while working on something on her computer) counted that the Comrade was too strict and too narrow minded in a stressful situation.  Fortunately, when they are in that situation they work very well together, putting aside any differences at least temporarily.

As the conversation progressed I noticed that we were being followed a motorcycle.  I also noticed two people on a nearby hill observing us while doing something.  I couldn’t quite make out what he was doing.  The Doctor must have also noticed the people as she immediately closed her laptop and began checking the surroundings.

At that point one of the men up on the hill pulled out a RPG and fired at us.  I managed to barely get the truck out of the way, when he fired a second RPG at my truck.  Fortunately, I was able to dodge again.  The Comrade and the Doctor immediately sprung into action.

The Comrade pulled out his AKBM and immediately downed the guy with the RPG before he could fire another shot at us.  Meanwhile, the Doctor got into a gun draw duel with the motorcyclist.  The motorcyclist was trying to ready a SMG to shoot as us, while the Doctor pulled my Bushmaster from the gun rack.  She got to the trigger first and fired the Bushmaster’s Grenade Launcher.  The shot rang true and the motorcycle and its driver disappeared from the earth.

The Comrade then fired a few bursts on the remaining person on the mountain.  The one remaining man still busy…doing something.  Something that had his total attention as his comrades died around him.  Being an accurate shot, the Comrade made sure the remaining person joined his friends. And just like that, three men attacking and three men down.  As I said, when they are in a stressful situation the Doctor and the Comrade work very well together.

Anyways I digress, I pull over so we can get a better look at who attacked us.  The Comrade and the Doctor went up the hill to see what the people up on the hill were trying to do, while I stayed with the truck to ensure we had no more suprises comes up the road.  The Comrade and the Doctor found that half the hill had been wired to blow.  Had I gotten close enough to the trap, we would have been buried under tons of debris.  Definitely somebody went to a lot of trouble to ensure we were ambushed and they wanted us dead.
I put a little Lorraine Cross on the side of the road and enjoyed a cigarette while I waited for them to return.
The Doctor and the Comrade returned from the hill.  The Doctor had blood on her clothes from where she tried to save one of men up on the hill.  Unfortunately he was well pass saving at that point.   The Doctor discretely changed clothes and we soon headed on our way to Nice.  Not to long after we noticed that once again a motorcycle was following us.  As the motorcycle got closer, it came clear that it was the Marine.  The Marine had quickly got his Cyclone repaired and had come to join us.  Together, the Marine on his Cyclone and the rest of us in the pickup headed into Nice.

The first place we went to in Nice was a bakery owned by sister, Alexis.  I went ahead of the others into the shop to ensure everything was alright.  Of course as soon as I enter the shop, Alexis screamed as she was not prepared to see come walking through the door.  The rest of the group immediately raced in to rescue me, only to find out what was going on.  It was a bit of a funny situation, but it demonstrated what good comrades I had and how lucky I am to have them as comrades.

As I introduced everyone to Alexis, the Doctor made some attempts to speak in French.  She could only understand a little of the conversation I was having with Alex and responded a little.  Considering she only knows what she has overheard in conversation, she did a pretty good job.

Alexis then inquired on where I got the pickup and when I couldn't easily explain it she gave me a long lecture about giving up my scandalous ways if I was to ever settle down.  Like the rest of family, Alexis did not understand why I went down the path and was hoping that I would give it up and become an normal person again.  If it was that simple I probably would have done it.  Still I can always look back at my life and say it wasn’t boring.

Anyways I digress, Alexis was kind enough to provide us some food and give us a place to stay for the night.  She even let us park our vehicles in a garage behind the shop so we can take our vehicles off the streets.  Of course, we weren’t going to spend the entire night asleep.  We were here to look for ships.  So when it got late at night we chose to go out to the docks.

As we walked down the docks we noticed a small group of people in a small motorboat offloading something on to the dock.  At this time of night they couldn’t be offloading anything legal.  Before we could react, I heard in French “The other group is already here, Go Go Go..”.  A bunch of plainclothes policemen came racing out of a nearby building and ordered us three to freeze (conviently the Marine managed to take cover before they spotted him).  Apparently there was some sort of drug deal gong down and the police were here to make a bust.  Having literally walked in on it, the police had mistaken us as the buyers.

I immediately tried to dissuade them, I shouted that the men on the dock took my sister and begged them to stop them.  They immediately demanded that the men on the dock to freeze while they shoved us to the ground.  With two of our party not wearing any armor and me wearing an undercover bulletproof vest, I couldn’t afford to get into a shoot out.  Only the Marine was wearing his CVR-3 and the police hadn’t spotted him…yet. The police immediately identified themselves as GMP.

That is when the men on the dock opened up.  Two of the men fired there SMGs into the GMP while the rest of the smugglers attempted to get away on boat.  Several of the GMP were hit.  The Marine then came out of hiding and began sinking the boat in an effort to stop the smugglers.  The GMP who didn’t know what side the Marine was on immediately opened fired on him.  In hail of gunfire, they downed the Marine.

The smugglers then opened up again gunning down the rest of GMP who weren’t holding us down.  At this time we had to act, either we could do nothing or we would get gun downed by the smugglers as they were finishing off the GMP on us, or we could fight off the GMP while fighting off the smugglers.  As the rest of the group began fighting off the GMP, they provided enough of a distraction to escape the GMP officer on top of me.

Immediately Joan and Charles entered my hands and at once they moved to end the threat of the smugglers.  Joan quickly downed one of the SMG armed smugglers.  Charles immediately responded and downed the second SMG armed smuggler.  The remaining smugglers had enough and began swimming away.  I immediately dropped my weapons, so the GMP officer didn’t shoot me for drawing weapons.  The last thing I want on my gravestone would be ‘shot by a cop for saving his life.’

Meanwhile our Comrade was making great progress.  He was successfully taking on two GMP officers with little trouble.  He even free up the Doctor so she could go check on the Marine.  As the third GMP officer turned to face the Comrade, I rushed him in attempt to keep him off the Comrade.  Unfortunately, the officer was prepared.  In one swift move he blocked my attack and finished handcuffing me.  He then shoved me to ground and began bouncing my head off the dock in attempt to subdue me.

The Doctor then grabbed the Marine’s ‘toy rifle’ and but many Kilojules worth of energy into the dock destroying putting a hole in it.  She demanded the GMP officers to surrender.  The GMP immediately did so, but not before the Comrade knocked out one officer, an officer voided his bowels, and I kicked the same officer in the junk.  As I say, I am not a nice girl.

We handcuffed the remaining GMP officers and took to a nearby building to interrogate them.  They being typical soldiers (after all the GMP are military police) had little to say.  We left them guns, but took there ammo (and I took a badge for other  purposes).  We then headed out into the night before any other surprises arrived….
