Robert Aspirin Passed Away
by Dari

It is with great sadness that I post the passing of a great American fantasy/sci-fi author.  Robert Aspriin passed away on May 22, 2008 while reading a novel by Terry Pratchett (talk about the best endorsement).  He was awaiting a ride to a convention when he was found by a friend.

Robert was the author/co-author/editor if the Thieves World seres, the Myth Adventure series, the Phule's series as well as many others.  His talents and imagination will be greatly missed.

I'm truly going to "Myth" him.  His creation fo Theives World set the stage for a true revolution in fantasy story-telling and gaming.

I've been a fan since I was a teenager.  And the beauty is that I can still pick up one of his books and laugh at the adventures of his crazier characters or grimace at the harsh reality found in his tales of Sanctuary and its denizens.

Either I'm getting old, or writing is getting to a much more dangerous business.  Lately we have lost Aspirin, Jordan (not a fan of his series books, but he was a great author of Conan novels), Gemmell (a true master of fantasy in many forms) and even Gygax (for those who haven't read the Gord series, it's a must - no high literature, but some fun looks at the beginnings of D&D lore from the hands of the creator).  I will truly miss all of these giants within the realms we have come to love.  I just look forward to sharing their works with my daughter when she is old enough to understand them and enjoy them with me.

Best endorsement or worst.  Nonetheless I was a big fan of his work, especially his MythAdventures stuff and he will be sorely missed.

Between him and Robert Jordan, I wonder if Piers Anthony is next.

WoW that really sucks. I haven't read everything of his but the Phule/Myth series were great.
