Memoirs of a Marquis Member: Chapter 10: Catch Me If You Can
by Banzai

Chapter 10:  Catch Me If You Can

With the incident with the GMP behind us, we went to some nearby docks to see if we could find some ships somewhere that would be able to transport the Pride of Russia.  It took us along while for us to find something that would fit the bill, but eventually we came across a ferry that would be just capable of taking the Pride of Russia to Africa.  We were figuring out how we can take over the ship when the Doctor raised a good point.

Who owned the ferry?  Is a person whose livelihood depended on the ferry, or are criminals using it for their own ends.  We simply didn’t know.  We barely knew anything about what was going on in Southern France.  So we decided that it would be best to withdraw back to my sister’s house.

As we turned on to the street where my Sister’s bakery was, we saw police lights.  The GMP had already sent a squad car over to Alexis’s place.  One of the GMP at the dock must of recognized my face and how you say…put two and two together.  Immediately we began formulating a plan.  The Marine and I would sneak to the back of the Alexis’s house and retrieve the Cyclone and truck from the garage.  Meanwhile, the Doctor and the Comrade would wait at the end of the street until they heard the Marine and I escape in the vehicles.  They would then shoot up the police car and disable it.  Then the Marine and I would go and pick up the Doctor and the Comrade and make our getaway.

That was the plan anyways.  And plans never survive contact of with the enemy as you say.  The Marine and I snuck up to the garage door and as I open the garage door, I saw something waiting in the darkness of the garage.  The GMP had anticipated me trying to sneak in through the garage and tried to set-up an ambush to catch me.  I quickly said, “Wait a minute!  This isn’t my house.”  Then I closed the garage door before the GMP could recognize me.

As I closed the door suddenly the lights in the garage came on.  As I took cover and told the Marine why I had to shut the garage, the lights inside came on inside.  There was suddenly a whole lot of commotion going on inside the garage and I could over hear the surprise of the GMP to find that my truck did not contain just baked goods.  As the Marine and I tried to figure out what our next plan of action was, there was suddenly gunfire in front of the house.

The Marine and I immediately sprung into action.  I grabbed the garage door and threw it opened.  Immediately two GMP officers clad in battle armor were upon us swinging their batons.  I was able to dodge the swats made at me.  The Marine was hit but if he felt it he didn’t let on it affected him.

Immediately Joan and Charles appeared in my hands.  Joan, then Charles, spoke up.  They laid into the GMP officer I was facing making him stumble back under their assault.  The GMP’s partner was immediately downed by two quick shots from the Marine.  Those Expeditionary ‘toy guns’ pack a lot of kilojoule punch.  The remaining GMP officer two a couple of futile swings at me but was unable to hit me.  The Marine went for his Cyclone as Joan and Charles finished off their clips…and the GMP officer.

The Marine transformed his Cyclone into its Battloid mode and immediately moved his Cyclone out of the garage and towards the street.  I immediately secured the GMP officers whose body armor kept them alive through the gunfight.  Good stuff that Southern Cross body armor, too bad it can’t be used by anyone but the user.

Anyways I digress, no sooner did the Marine reach the street then did he nearly got run over by a GMP officer attempting to flee the scene.  The Marine barely jumped out of the way as the GMP car shot by.  Nobody takes a swipe at one of my comrades and gets away with it!  I immediately reloaded Joan and Charles and attempted to exact revenge.

The GMP police car had already had its rear window shot out, so I could see the GMP officer quite clearly.  Joan barked once as Charles barked twice.  For the most part Joan and Charles found their mark, as I saw the GMP officer slump over.  However the GMP police car continued down the street and out of sight.  The Marine chased after the police car in his Cyclone.  I got into the truck and pulled around up front to see what was going on.

There was the Comrade, the Doctor, Alexis, her husband, and unconscious GMP officer.  The GMP tried to arrest Alexis and my brother-in-law when the Comrade and the Doctor came to the rescue.  The Comrade managed to knock out one of the GMP officer with skilled full bursts that avoided hitting my sister or her husband.  The Doctor shot the gun out of the remaining officer’s hand. The officer then jumped into the car and almost ran over Alexis in the process.  Fortunately Alexis got out of the way and Alexis’s husband managed to get out of the police car before it sped off.  As the GMP officer drove off, the Doctor managed to get a parting blast, taking out the GMP’s rear windshield.

I quickly gathered up the Doctor, the Comrade, Alexis, and her husband and began to head out.  It was not safe for Alexis to stay here and I thought it would be best for Alexis to be taken home to my parents.  As we began to head out, the Marine caught up with us.  He had pursued the GMP police car until the GMP police car slammed into a building an exploded.  At that point we decided to leave Nice as soon as possible before we could have another run-ins with the GMP.

I decided to take a different route to Monaco for two reasons.  The first was that the GMP might try to quick route in hopes of catching us as we got away.  The second is that I didn’t believe the attack on the way into Nice was a random attack by bandits.  I think it was from associates who I had a fallen out prior to the arrival of the Invid. Now why I would associate with people with explosives….as I say I am not a nice girl.

Anyways I digress; we spent the next day out in the countryside.  A day of avoiding the GMP, a day of apologizing to Alexis and family, a day of living.  The next day we quietly re-entered Monaco.  I had to keep a low a profile, as the GMP apparently have put out an all points bulletin for me.  Aliens from who knows where invade the Earth, and the GMP has nothing better to do but track down little ol’ me.

It was left to the Marine to take Alexis and her husband to be reunited with my family.  The Doctor and the Comrade decided to take a trip to the Monaco’s suburbs.  The Doctor’s significant other apparently had a house out in the suburbs, and the Doctor wanted to pay a visit.  I could understand, I too had someone I wanted to meet in town but I just couldn’t.

The Doctor and the Comrade checked out the Doctor’s boyfriend’s house.  It was completely empty.  The only sign of any recent activity was a spent ‘toy gun’ cartridge in the back yard.  It appeared the boyfriend was preparing for something…something dangerous.  The Doctor and the Comrade searched the house, but couldn’t find any indication where the boyfriend went.  They did find a suit of CVR-3 armor.  Why did he have Expeditionary Force armor?  Why did he leave it behind?  Why did he leave in such a hurry?

In the meanwhile, I went to a local bar I know.  I went to talk to an old acquaintance that I use to work with.  Back when I was freelancing, I was a local guide for a particular merchant from Russia.  Viktor was an interesting merchant, he brought all sorts of interesting items from E.B.S.I.S and collects even more interesting items from the Southern Cross.  I was there to help him make his appointed rounds without the border guards or GMP being any the wiser.

I found him easily enough.  I was looking for a spare suit of CVR-3 (little did I know the Doctor was in the process of finding one).  Unfortunately, Viktor didn’t have any.  CVR-3 was just simply too rare and too hot for him to have any.  He was willing to find to search for me, if I gave some of the Pulse Rifles we were carrying.  However, I couldn’t make that decision for the group.  So I told I had to talk to my associates first, he gave me six hours to meet up again.

As I left the bar, I ran into Dion.  Dion was my how you say “high school sweetheart.”  If a perfect world, I would probably be still with him.  However, we came from two different worlds.  He came from the high society and was destined for the world of politics.  I had already begun my decent of into the underworld.  As much as I wanted to be with him, I liked him too much to ruin his life by dragging him with me.

And as I looked at him, he had done well for himself.  He was a important aide to the Monaco High Council.  He had two bodyguards.  He immediately asked how I was doing and what I did to have the GMP searching the countryside.  This is what happens when your in your hometown…everyone finds out what has happened before you do.  I told him about how I accidently walked onto a GMP police sting and how they assumed I was in on a drug smuggling operation.

The conversation then turned how long he would have to run interference for me to keep me safe from the GMP.  When I told him I was in town for a month his mouth dropped to the floor.  He said he would do his best to cover my trail, hopefully that would be enough….
