So, When players cancel, and your stuck with only 1-2 of your friends/group.. what do YOU do about it..
I've been a Gamesmaster for a Youth group, that was the most sporadic, where I might have between 1 and 20 players from a selection of 30... and expected to run such a campaign..
Generally, setting the game up for the day, getting the plot to finish up before the end of the day and getting the team back to the central home base again was a great way to curb that problem..
Multiple characters each, High death rate, Small missions, Set up in 45 minutes, speed through the group decision in 15, and take out mission #1 and #2 in the first hour, to complete the Main mission within the next 2 hours..
But What about more concrete, on going campaigns, especially in ones that are new players... breaking out DungeonDice or Magic the Gathering, or any number of possibles is just unlikely to go down too well..
Today, .. I resorted to the Tavern Brawl, with the Crazy drunk, The Bards Tales of things that happened in the past, and was about to progress to the Bartenders Night-time side adventure, when a business interruption halted the entire process and we cancelled anyway..
Thursday is a Public Holiday in Russia, so I'll post again next tuesday evening, when I HOPE the group will start systematically wiping the goblin population out of those pretentious little goblin warrens...
And the Knights, can start to ask themselves.. is killing a defenceless baby goblin evil?
