With nature taking a break from trying to wash away Wisconsin from the face of the Earth I have a little time to draw up some plans for the Banelord and I bought a new blade for the table saw. Like I said in previous articles that if you can't find a Titan design you like, you aren't looking, not even a little. OK, what I really said was that there are tons of fluff out there. So in my opinion you really have no excuse for not finding something you like. There are literally tons of fluff photos of Titans of all sorts. Recently while thumbing through 40K art books I found some excellent Jes Goodwin sketches of Warlord and Reaver Titans. What I like about his take on the Titan is how he changed the direct or focus of the Titan. What I mean is most Titans are drawn, built or otherwise depicted moving in a slow, steady, forward gate. He changed it from an unstoppable to an immovable object. This one gives off a feel of a wall. A massive armored wall of defiance. A rooted to the earth, stalwart, rook in the army of the Imperium. It also reminds me a football (that's American football for you European readers) player with it's huge shoulders. And when I think of Football players I think of the Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior bad guys and they remind me of Khorne Berserkers. While drifting along this train of thought I got out my light table and pencils. I traced over Jes' design and came up with the next doodle as to how I want to incorporate it into the Banelord. This also has decided for me that I will need to craft an actual Bloodletter shaped cockpit for the beast, as I think it really ties in with the rest of my rendering. The cannon barrel will run all the way through the head and will be how I attach it to the body. Just like how the original Deathstrike Cannon used to plug into the front of the Epic Warlord model back in the 80's. Tomorrow I'll be drawing up new templates for the new pieces so I can start cutting the wood by this weekend.
