Wargaming whenever I can...

My S/O has been told that I don't give up gaming unless it's for a wedding or funeral, and they had better be immediate family. I was willing to give up this weekend, because she is a great GF and I had Friday to game.

I got to game both Friday and Saturday. How cool is that? I got in games of Jena 20 and Albion 20, by Victory Point Games. These are fast fun titles with a 20 counter limit and random effects cards. I'm not sure the French have a chance to win Jena 20, unless somebody is the reincarnation of Napoleon, without the random effects going their way but it's an interesting game. Albion 20 is an alternative history invasion of England by Napoleon. It was just as interesting but both sides have a good chance of winning this one.

I played the S&T Red Dragon Rising on Saturday. Its a hypothetical game of China going on the attack to change the status quo by taking out Taiwan and possibly the Spratley's. A good game with an interesting feel and fast play. Highly recommended.

Other then that, some minor work on miniatures to round out the weekend.

I managed to get in another game of Red Dragon Rising. As you can figure, from previous postings, this is one of my current favorite games. It is fast, easy to learn has lots of variation due to the random events table and I have won more than I have lost. :) I played on Saturday and won as the Americans, only losing one carrier and Taiwan. On the other hand, I destroyed the Chinese Navy and any of their troops who either weren't on Taiwan on in China. I killed off the Amphibious units and ships so there was no chance for them to take the Spratley Islands or reinforce Taiwan.

I also got in two games of Race for the Galaxy, another favorite game which plays well, is easy to learn and I consistently lose but have a great time doing so.

I got to play Blitzkrieg Commander today. It's a set of WWII rules based on Warmaster Ancients. This was a late war Soviet vs German game with a lot of the Big Cats involved including a Jagdtiger, and King Tigers as well as an Elephant. The Soviets had a ton of T-34's and ISU's. It was a great game run by Bob Sadowski. The Germans had a marginal victory. There was also a great looking dungeon crawl using 3D terrain and the D&D Miniatures rules.

I went and saw Hellboy II last night with the S/O and had a great time. The Troll Market is astounding. I would recommend this movie without reservation. What a blast.

No Rat's Drift this weekend as our GM was called away to a dig, he's an archeologist. So boardgaming on Sunday as well. Saturday, in a little while as a matter of fact, it's off to play "Red Dragon Rising".

So the latest...picked up some Drantak (sp) aliens because they look cool. Looking at buying MORE Skaven/ratmen because I can, buying some B5 spacecraft figs because I saw them on sale at theminiaturespage.com and quite possibly picking up some more boardgames. I also have to read the rules, again, to "Red Dragon Rising" Strategy and Tactics latest issue about a hypothetical US/China war in the near future. A great game with high replay value due to the random events, a low to middle class of complexity and good graphics. I just want to make sure that my "play date" on Saturday goes well and that I give my opponent a good game, and hopefully a major beating. I'll be playing Saturday, boardgaming at A1 Comics Roseville, and Sunday that the Carmichael Library with the Miniature Wargaming Society of Sacramento M_W_S@yahoogroups.com
