Liquored Up Life and Journeys of Polmund Stouthammer
by Carl_G
Date - Bah it's today...in a town...think we call it ossok or some damned thing

Woke up today at my favorite table in the inn of this cesspool of a town, the wine hit me hard from the previous night so I was feeling a bit surly. Tossing some coppers on the table for the pigswill. Stumbling out of the tavern chewing on some willow bark, makes the pain go away, I decide to go out and hunt some easy game. Since the inn is serving pork chops tonight I guess we're hunting boar...a fair trade, one more night of drowning my past without being accosted by the locals.

Taking an east road leading to my hidden cache of weapons I pick up a few throwing axes and a skinning dagger. "I'm going to cleave the bastards head in two."

The boar's trails are easy to pick up, I've noticed some goblins tracks as well, we'll look for them later. Meanwhile I fool the pigs path down to a ridge and see a large male drinking at a small brook. I cry out a challenge as I hurl an axe at the porker. Two gleaming tusks look up at me as the axe buries itself into the boars side. Without a moments hesitation the boar charges trying to stick me with his tusks. I greet death in the face with my giant axe. The boar overruns me each time charging in, head lowered. I enjoy the sport and allow him to tire as I circle around each time to face him. Growing weary I shout a challenge once again and raise the axe over my head. The axe comes down and cleaves the boar's head in two, the momentum of the dead boar forces us back blood spraying everywhere. A glorious tustle. Without hesitation I skin the animal and wrap the finest cuts within, back to town.

Its near evening as I return to the inn and negotiate with the inkeeper, one bottles dwarvern spirits, free flowing ale and some good chops and my regular table by the fire. After dinner I believe I blacked out for a while, head resting against the table...people ignore me, just a drunk dwarf, nothing to see here.

Nigh to midnight a merchant comes crashing into the bar, his blathering causes me to stir...then I hear 'goblins' I'm fully awake. Half listening to the man whine about lost items and being burglurized I take notice of those around me. A holy dwarf, maybe a paladin of Mohunsnakdkawhatever his name is, tries to calm the merchant. Seemingly he gains a map of where the merchant was assaulted. A young elven girl...maybe a child...takes some notice when magic is associated with the merchants goods. Otherwise she looks a little lost, a little scared. Some seedy human, mercanary maybe, also notices and oppurtunity. A young cleric blames the world for the merchants problems and preaches to the tavern about helping this man out. I've heard enough, wrapping myself in my cloak I tap the merchant and the holy warrior and direct them to lead us out, these goblins need to die.

The night is stormy, the trees provide little cover against the pouring rain. I can easily see the path the merchant just came from, but the tracks wash away in a few minutes. The map we follow is good though, a little to detailed for my liking. Then again I don't trust lines dancing on a page, maybe the ale is getting to me. Seems like we're being followed...oh it's the stragglers from the in, they exchange niceties as we walk, as if they're in a garden by the lake on a sunny day. I wave them to be silent as we happen on 4 goblins gathered in a clearing. The cleric starts wanting to make peace and negotiate with them, I wave the dark mercenary off to the right and hurl an axe towards the lead goblin. So much for peace!

The scuffle is short, three dead and one hogtied as he's held down by the paladin. The cleric is holding a bedroll for some reason, yammering about making the goblin comfortable. I give them a minute to negotiate with the goblin, trying to find where the merchants goods and horse are. Impatient I star counting down from 10, as the goblin tries to spit at the holy warrior my axe comes down servering the stupid head from his body. All enemies dispatched I search them for anything of value...some piss poor liquor...down the hatch, hmm a workable mace, I'll grab that. Having not wanting to kill the goblin the 'paladin' prays over it's body, but I've had a little to much to drink and conviently piss right onto the headless body...so much for prayers on his head.

I'm feeling particularly happy with the victory, I pick up a path that leads towards the goblin hold, look at that the prisoner was lying about the direction. A little to much liquor...I'm singing some incoherent tavern song wondering down the path...oh look a door in the hill. I wander to the nearest bush and heave out the contents of my stomach. I here a scuffle behind me, so between heaves I sing to drown out the noise. Turns out my 'companions' dispatched two more goblins and triggered small cave in at the entrance...we can climb over though. Within the cave we find smooth polished stone..."Magic, I dun't like it."

We happen on a weapons cash, the young lass does something that makes one of the weapons glow. A shiny mace, bah give it to the mercenary. Deeper in we find a horse, I cut the bridle to place in my pack, the merchant should recognize his horses bridle. The horse is dead, blunt force trauma. Ouch, poor animal.

We happen on a large low ceiling room, that glows with magical supports. Towards the end of the room, 7 more of the bastards crouch waiting for us...damn amatuers making to much noice...ready your weapons boys we're going in...*hic*
