Gamer Interview 1
During this blog series we will bring you interviews with several D&D enthusiasts. Our first interview is with a 28 year old mother of two (with one on the way!) who has been an avid role player for almost the past eight years.
What originally attracted you to Dungeons & Dragons?
It is an excellent way to experience high risk adventure without endangering yourself… only endangering your character.
How did you feel anticipating your very first game?
Dread. I wasn’t sure I was going to have fun because of the length of time it takes to play a game.
What was your impression after that first game?
It was a lot of fun to do things I couldn’t do in real life.
Now that you have been playing for almost 8 years, how do you feel about the game?
I’m a lot more comfortable with it. I still don’t like how long it takes. But when the players work as a team and stay focused on the objectives it can be a lot of fun.
What is the most enjoyable part of the game for you?
Win or lose, if everyone is having fun that’s what it is all about.
How many characters would you say you have played?
Oh my goodness… um… hold on… 7 – 10? I’m don’t know exactly.
What types of characters have you played?
My first character was a Wolfen mercenary named Nuvalye. I’ve also played a Twilek Force-user in Star Wars, who was on the verge of turning to the “Dark Side”. I played an angel that kicked butt! A dwarven princess turned bounty hunter named Roxana Diamondshard. Most recently a human ranger named Eja Clayborne.
Out of those characters, which would you say was your favorite?
Roxana Diamondshard, the dwarven princess turned bounty hunter. I liked everything about her. The way she was calm and calculated. Also she only used bludgeon/subduing weapons and restraints instead of lethal force like with a sword or bow and arrow. She had that speak softly and carry a big stick approach.
Dice are an essential tool in Dungeons & Dragons; do you own your own set?
I own several. My favorite set is my jade dice. I had read about dice made from precious stones online and when I saw them at the comic shop I thought they were pretty.
What would you tell people that have never played before?
I would tell them to at least give it a shot with a good group…. if you have five hours to kill. ;)
