What is Blue Dragon?
While at Gen Con I stumbled onto a new card game called Blue Dragon. Its target age is 8 to 11 year olds but I found it to be a lot of fun for as old people as well. In fact most of the people who were playing the demo were between 15 and 25.
I have to admit the game flowed well and was easy to learn. It is both options rich and dynamic. In this card game you gain experience (from cards you have used) to level up, effectively enhancing your attack capabilities. You can call allies from your hand that can both attack and defend for you and most have their own cool abilities as well. There is a host of none creature cards that allow players to enhance, block, and negate attacks.
Blue Dragon is based off of a Japanese cartoon called, you guessed it Blue Dragon. The series had a short run on the cartoon network. I have to admit I liked this game and I really don’t like similar card games. I’m going to take this home and run it by my QA people who just happen to be my four and half year old and three and a half year old daughters. My youngest one is the art critic and the older one does system and game mechanic analysis; she let me know if they have their math right.
This game is produced by konami and will be released in November of this year.
