1st Level.... again!
by Sphynx

Ok, this kinda bites, and kinda rocks.  Our DM was curious as to what our characters would be like if we knew the game as well back when we created our characters, as we knew it from 14 games.  So, we were all asked to bring a 12th level character "What if?" for an extra 5000 xp.

Dragonborn Paladin became a Dragonborn WarLord turned Knight Commander (Platemail, Heavy Shield, etc)

Human Ranger became Halfling Rogue Shadow Assassin with Ranger MultiClass (Sneak Attack + Hunter's Quarry using a single Rapier with Backstabber and Lethal Hunter)

Tiefling Warlock stayed a Tiefling Warlock, but a huge change to Attributes, and Powers (lost the huge Dex, focused on the 3 primaries).  Remained FeyTouched

Human Cleric became a Dwarven Cleric focusing alot more on Durability and Surges.

Elven Ranger and Eladrin Wizard remained unchanged...

Then...... we got to talking about how some of the battles might have gone if we'd used these characters.  So.... we made them into 1st level characters and last week we ran parts of our first adventure (the tougher scenes), and did indeed do a bit better.  So anyways, we were kinda excited and some suggested that we just go back to the game, except play our new characters instead of our old characters.  As any smart DM would have said, our DM said No.  But if we wanted to start all over, we could start at 1st level, and despite me being quite happy at only 3,000 xp from 12th level, we went ahead and went back to 1st level..... I only agreed because we got a promise that the stories would be different this time around, and we wouldn't just re-play the old scenarios over again.  I think the new Forgotten Realms book might have had something to do with that promise though.

So, all my posts of Characters is now moot.  So anyhows, we re-ran our first adventure in its entirety, with a very.... different.... ending.  Later this week (hopefully tomorrow), I'll post our adventure in a more play-by-play manner, so we can see exactly where the strengths and weakness of our various characters are.

Not in 4th edition anymore.  I mean, the difference between a 1st and 3rd level character, in regards to survivability, is +10HP (most people start at 20 to 30 HPs in 4th edition, so barely a 50% increase for the weaker classes like Wizards), and +1 to your 4 main defenses.  1st level was only hard for us due to the Skull Lord.  A Level 10 monster....  Fortunately, we got to solo him instead of having him in his usual group of undead allies.
