This week Mike Pondsmith approved my 300 page Phantasy Star tribute RPG: Xandoria Saga Collection.
http://www.dillygreenbeangames.com/XandoriaSaga.htmlI was pretty excited. This book has had so much bad luck that I was glad the new edition got finished without me dying. Originally Xandoria was called "Andoria" and it used the D6 system. I had written it for an unnamed RPG company that was pretty new at the time. After working really hard on the game the publisher started dropping excuse after excuse as to why all the work I had been doing for them wasn't getting used. He sat on Andoria and did nothing with it. I chalk this up to industrial competition. Oh well. A year later and the book hadn't gone anywhere. So I pulled the book from the publisher because they defaulted on their contract. So, I needed a new system so I grabbed the Action! System from Gold Rush Games. I worked hard to finish the game up and got ready to take it to the next level. But dealing with the old school Fuzion/GRG crew was like sitting there and getting spit on and still having to smile or else. Lucky for me, Mike Pondsmith saved me from that hell and I went Fuzion. So I hired a Manga artist to do the art for the book. It was all looking good. Then out of the blue this chick vanished and I had 1 whopping piece of art from her. Not cool. I ended up doing the art myself and that first core book sucked (Xandoria Core Fuzion).
I even put out Xandoria Gaiden 1-2 for The Basic System (which turned out more true to Phantasy Star than the Fuzion version).
So YEARS go by and I had forgotten about the cursed game. Then one day on RPGnet someone asks about a Phantasy Star RPG and someone actually mentioned Xandoria Gaiden!!!! I was jacked and begin redoing Xandoria. I pulled all the art, dumped the layout and come up with 250 pages of solid text! I then added the rest of my material that was thrown to one side to include Lost System, the Phantasy Star 1 tribute game! 300 pages! I spent over a year doing ALL the new art for Xandoria and I'll tell you I am stoked now. I even sat down and played Phantasy Star 4 the other day. Talk about brainstorming a new book after this one!
I am happy to say this 300 page game will be $23.00 (you heard it here first)! $9.00s cheaper than the original. I would have gone cheaper, but I'd like to make more than a buck a copy. The more I sell the more follow-up books I can do. Unfortunetly I am not doing a PDF. The file is too big and to go and LoRes all the art would take another year and I have some cool stuff to finish this year. Next year I will be focusing on TBS Foundations.
