Atom Smasher....End of World?

Now here is my issue. Stephen Hawkings, brilliant mind and perv tell scientists that this machine won't destroy our planet. Here is a guy who has been confined to a wheelchair for his entire life and been the butt of people's bad jokes, and we are supposed to trust him? How do we know he isn't out to kill us all with a black hole weapon?

Craziness aside, this project is sketchy. We just don't know what could happen. If anything this is comparable to Doc Oc in Spiderman 2. On the other hand this could get us further in the universe.....

God I love and hate science. SO much to learn and so much to destroy us if we screw up....

Stephen Hawkings has a great sense of humor.  I'm not sure he's got "destroying the world" in him.    Although, I wouldn't say the same about some the crazies that may be working on this blackhole thingie... My fingers are definitely crossed!

Clearly you don't understand your Movie Science.  This thing is 17 miles long, built by a bunch of mad scientists who speak with European accents, and not only does it involve beams of light colliding but they're trying to create a particle that's only THEORIZED.

Yeah, we're pretty much boned. the only thing that can save us are the scientists from the Core.  Someone get the ones that survived!  We need their drilling machine!

True, but it could lead to eventual development of things like warp drives, force fields and other useful tools that could get us off this planet and out polluting the universe with our presence.

The end is nigh!

Not really. I don't see how this could be so over hyped as a bad thing. You didn't see all that type of hype when they got the fusion reactors to high 900,000,000+ degrees! (of only for a split second) It could have melted a hole though the Earth
