Game Chef

hello All

Ben suggested I post over here.

I am once again, 4th time I think, in the annual Game Chef Game Design Competition.

I had posted my Elevator Pitch, (short back cover blurb essentially), of my entry this year as my first blog entry.

So I am going to copy it here as well as link to Game Chef.

Thanks for the tip on this group Ben

Tad

I am participating in an annual game design contest titled Game Chef

The site about it is here at

This is the Elevator Pitch, the 30 seconds, talking about my game design this year

Title: Land of Broken Hearts

Elevator Pitch

Not everyone is unhappy. Some people are glad, filled with life, love and joy. Others are a little down once in a while.

Then
there are those people who are Broken inside, some thing fundamental is
gone, missing, ripped out by the roots and left to rot by the side of
the road.

You are
one of those who are broken inside. Love is gone, dignity is
non-existent. This loss has enabled you to see another world that
overlays our own.

This is the Land of Broken Hearts and yours is surely one of them.

This spurs some good questions:

What's necessary for a "killer" elevator pitch?

What "tools" should you have in your repetoire when you enter this sort of competion?

Where do you start on a project like this? On a smaller scale project?

Once you're hip deep in a project, what do you need to drive it to completion?

-Ben.

Hi there

So here are my own replies, others may certainly vary

What's necessary for a "killer" elevator pitch?

Heck if I know. Not really sure what it is, other than the 30 seconds to pitch it, grab the attention and get the reader to purchase the book/game.

What "tools" should you have in your repetoire when you enter this sort of competion?

Before entering this contest, the first time, I had no interest or inclination to design a game. I would almost suggest writing, editing, page layout, graphic, and design skills.

Where do you start on a project like this? On a smaller scale project?

you could go over to www.1km1kt.net and try the 24 Hour RPG Challenge. That is a friendly and low key way to start. Also at Story Games there are occassionally other design challenges, but they are a bit more intense.

Once you're hip deep in a project, what do you need to drive it to completion?

I shoot for something that is complete. Covering the basics, combat, characters, dangers (if I have the energy), setting, creatures, advancement. All the core elements. Which is difficult in 10 days to say the least. As well as trying to make it look a little bit better than .txt
