My life after the apocalypse(s)
First there was Planet of the Apes, then came Kamandi from DC comics and Jack Kirby. Sometimes I just call it Planet of Kirby. And then came Gamma World, just before Thundarr, the Barbarian came on TV on Saturday mornings. I was glad when I broke a bone and couldn't play football on Saturday AM's just so I could watch Thundarr-- Arial was so hot. Then right around 1oth grade, The Road Warrior taught us all that it was punk haircuts and sports protective gear. And while Ronald Reagan was telling... Read More

A True Story: My first paranormal experience
Well, this might not be my first experience, but it is my first really memorable one. All the ones before also happened here. I was a teenager, more than twenty-five years ago. The house I grew up in was old, over a hundred years old, not far from the center of Keene, NH. It had once been a duplex, with one home on the first floor and one on the second. My father had bought the house from both families, and he converted the second floor into bedrooms for my parents and their four sons. I... Read More

All Thee Dysk's a Stage: Dress Rehearsal
Last night's playtest of the GURPS Discworld adventure went well. We identified rough spots in the action, and I got some good feedback on how to refine the presentation and execution of the player characters. Now I know I need to give more time in the beginning to not just the city of Ankh-Morpork, as I did last night, but the set-up and the NPCs in that first scene. Also, it's perfectly okay not to have an ending in mind even for a pre-written scenario, as the players are going to come up with... Read More

Discovering 'Sandal Punk'
You know, you can never have too many punk sub-genres in the world. I mean for me, it just never gets old. And thanks to Cathal here at the Bomb, I have discovered a new genre to play in. You see my game system's fantasy settin, TAG's RuinCrawl, was always supposed to have an edge, and delve into the dark fantasy themes of say Clark Ashton Smith and Brian McNaughton, while deconstructing what has become FRPG. But beyond ample use of the word "grave-robber" in the play-test sessions, where I alwa... Read More

Strange World Part 1
Robin Hood forest is a lot bigger than people realize. Like nearly all woods in New Hampshire, it stretches out from the town that gave it its name and connects with other forests to build a network of trees that covers much of the state. Most people just stay on the trails and think its just part of the park, but there is so much more. I've made it a personal goal to explore the forest so completely that it will be impossible to get lost. That's when it happened; when my eyes opened wi... Read More
