Pieces Parts
Posted On 09/19/2008 17:34:17
I stopped by the dollar store and found they had some great Halloween decorations. They will make for some excellent parts on the new Nurgle Dedicated Titan I'm building after the Khorne. The long bones will be useable as shins with some minor modifications. The short ones will be thighs and arms. The hands, skulls and skeletons will be great for decorations on the outside of the Titan. And the best part is I only spent $5!

Banelord - Khorne Warlord Titan Project - Part 7
Posted On 09/18/2008 23:41:01
A little more work and now the legs are together. More armor panels have been added and the cockpits got some work. I stopped by my local science store and picked up some rare earth magnets to hold the different heads on. Hopefully tomorrow I will get a chance to start work on the weapon systems.

You can see all my progress at this Photobucket link.

Banelord - Khorne Warlord Titan Project - Part 6
Posted On 09/14/2008 22:00:31
Halloween Express = Good place to find a Traitor Titan cockpit!

Now that most of the woodworking is done I'll be shifting to the cosmetic aspect of finishing the titan.
I have decided to make the T
itan's parts interchangeable. The cockpit and weapons will be swappable so it can be either a Warlord or Banelord Titan. This way I stay true to my original project but leave myself a way out. Cause I don't like crazy titans!
Today I went out shopping for fiddly bitz that would go on the outside of the machine. Being a cheap bastard I like to use stuff that is effective but also cost effective. My first example is going to Halloween Express and picking up two nice plastic skulls at $4 a piece. The first human skull will make a great evil cockpit. The second one with open mouth will be for the Banelord. The open mouth will accommodate a cannon nicely.
Next I headed over to my local hardware store for
one of the best cheap decorative things out there. You ever build something and think to yourself "Gee I wish there was something cheap that would look like steel ribbed power cables". There is! It's called Split Loom Electrical Conduit. Your car probably has miles of it in the engine compartment. It comes in many diameters from a 1/2 inch up to 5". There may be even bigger that I haven't seen. Anyways I tend to stick to the 1/2 and 1" sizes which are $.49 a foot up to $.79. I used it to bulk up the arms on the Biledriver. Like in this picture. It takes paint well and is a great and cheap way to decorate vehicles, buildings and titans.
While at the hardware store I picked up something usable as a connector for the head to the body. Again the best things are the cheapest and without having to compromise. I went with 2" PVC plastic pipe
connectors. You can see them above, they are what the skulls above are sitting on.
Lastly if you want to decorate with chain I
suggest looking in your local hardware store. Someone once said to go to a jewelry store for small chain. Why? So I can pay thier rediculous prices for over-priced costume chain? Sha-right!
I have an idea to use plastic chain on the Khone Titan as a way of representing how they had to tie it down between battles to keep it from running rampant. Just like Chaos Dreadnoughts.

Banelord - Khorne Warlord Titan Project - Part 5
Posted On 09/13/2008 17:00:35
Today I was able to assemble the shoulder units. My dad came up with the idea of cutting slots in the torso to fit the shoulder to it. While not a wargamer he found the project interesting and wanted to help. There he is using his milling machine putting in the slots the shoulder boxes will be sitting in.
I think it c
ame out pretty close to the original picture I've been working off of.

And I'll form the legs...or rise my creation and walk!!! Mua ha ha ha!!!

The shins, thighs and pelvis are now assembled. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get the ankles put together before my appointment. The torso will have to be taken apart. It dried cock-eyed and needs straightening. The rest will have to wait till Saturday, as I have my Dark Heresy campaign to run Friday night. Maybe we'll have a TPK so I can hurry home to work on it. Heh heh heh...

Proof of life... or Fall has come and the spirit is motivated. I think one of the reasons for the delay, besides life getting in the way, is I haven't been listening to the right music. While my work will never grace the halls of any museum all of us miniature crafters are, to a degree, artists. For me music plays a huge influence on my creations. Song names and lyrics are always bouncing through my mind steering my designs. Well after a dispute with a bunch of readers as to who was better GWAR or Lordi. I got pretty fed up with some idiot responses and went 100% Johnny Cash all summer. Now Johnny is wonderfully dark, BUT doesn't inspire my creativity. For me you play songs like "The man comes around" when you put your newly built Warlord Titan on the battlefield to demoralize your enemies. So now I've bust back out the GWAR and Lordi albums and the blood is flowing, the gears are turning and I'm actually turning out some progress.
Fall is also one of my absolutely favorite times of the y
ear. I can work all day late into the night in the cool autumn air of Wisconsin. That totally beats the 90+ degree temps with nearly 100% humidity in Summer. Also the bugs are getting ready for their Winter naps. Nice! So today I cut out the legs and pelvis of the Titan. Tomorrow I'll cut out the feet, leg armor and torso parts. I have kind of come to a sticking point in if it will actually be a Banelord Titan. The number one reason is that it can go, due to it's insane nature, bat-shit nuts and charge the enemy. Other times it will go into a fire-frenzy possibly shooting my own troops. That's fine when a ED-209-sized dreadnought does that. OK fine might be strong, but it's not like having a ten-story tall million-ton death dealer with insta-kill weapons deciding to have a hissy fit amongst my own forces. So I'm either go to make it so I can swap parts or just switch to the Warlord pattern and skip making the psycho version. At least for my army. If some one wants me to build them a crazy Titan it's their choice.

I looooooove green stuff.
Posted On 09/08/2008 17:57:17
As Iron Worker pointed out in a previous post you could have saved nearly 75% on a plastic Nob and Terminator just by buying the latest issue of White Dwarf magazine. And IMO the articles for 40K in it actually means you are buying the two minis for $6 not the magazine. Don't get me wrong, there are nice pictures but that's about it. I don't play Warhammer Fantasy nor do I play LotrR. I like Tolkien, just not the miniature game.
Anyways in my never ending quest to be the worlds cheapest gamer I decided to turn 10 of my new plastic Nobs into Meganobs. Here is some of the starting work. Tonight and tomorrow I'll be adding more armor
plates, power cables and weapons.
I love green stuff but
waiting for it to dry sucks. Yeah I know you can build a little baking oven using a lamp and a coffee can. But all those years of fire safety and boy scout merit badges makes me reluctant to use one.

Need some xBox advice
Posted On 09/04/2008 01:24:48

With the xBox dropping by $50 per platform I'm looking at it as my next gaming console, but nobody I know owns one. So I'm looking at the Arcade version or the one step up $250 version. Is the hard drive very important? Or only kind of important? Does it work like a PS2 (the system I have now) and use those little cartridges to save games? I see they come with wireless controllers BUT can you get ones with cables? Sorry don't trust wireless and don't like the idea of a controller that can fly anywhere I can throw it cause it isn't tethered. Any help will be appreciated thanks!

"Oh my God...you blew it up! You really did it....Damn you all to hell!"
Posted On 09/03/2008 16:37:15
Well thanks to FiveFootMayhem I found out that Nathan Stark is actually and truly dead. Thanks Mandy, way to hurt a guy. One of the guys at my LGS tried to tell me "But he is only lost in time". But I knew better, I knew. Check this link here, if you don't believe me. The final answer is at the end. This blows the proverbial goat!! Now I'm going to be an inconsolable jerk for the next 72 hours, starting NOW.
Basically it sounds like Ed Quinn wanted to move on, and that's cool. I just hope that the subject/genre of his next show or movie is something I want to watch. I really like Ed as an actor but I probably won't be watching say a soap opera, a ABC Family Channel drama (puke!) or political/legal show (though I do like Eli Stone) with him in it. I like his work in sci-fi and would like to see him do more in it.
O.K. I'm off to be an
inconsolable jerk!!! Grumble, grumble grumble!!!

Though let me clarify. I still love Eureka and all the characters (even Fargo, though not that new sneaky bitch!), but something will be missing from now on.

Looking for super cheap printable cardstock building for use in Giant Monster Rampage, other Kaiju games (boo!) or table top mecha games? I made these years ago and many people find them wonderful for the games they play. Just head over to my other blog at the link here. Then page down to Downloads and Playaids, open the Kaiju folder. In there are plans for tall and short buildings. Remember to download the roofs too. They fit both building types. Also there are rubble markers and signs to make your buildings look more business-like.

Super-sized Sunday Smackdown!!!
Posted On 08/31/2008 21:11:21
While today's battle had only three kills. There was a hell of a lot of damaged dealt and health regained. Also the bell curve is tightening as we are all playing more tactically, so deaths don't come as fast.
Today we tried out using the
Military too. As with most Kaiju movies they we're soundly defeated. In the course of the monster mash. The Juggernaut was wrecked, MOGERA was crunched and Biollante uprooted.

Stuff was blowing up all over the place I tell ya!!!
Posted On 08/24/2008 22:26:05
In todays Giant Monster Rampage battle, in no particular order, the following Kaiju got their tails kicked.

Rodan went into a nosedive!
The Juggernaut got hauled back to the repair bays!
Gamera was turned into soup! (Actually Jeff needed to head home so we figured Gamera returned to the studios of the Daiei Motion Picture Company.)
Destroyah was devastated!
Mechagodzilla was hammered!
Space Godzilla was taken down by the military!
And finally Godzilla 2K felt the pinch of Ogrethulhu!

So everyone who played today earned at least one kill. Heck even the military who are an off board annoyance managed to down a Kaiju. I think in the end about 20 buildings were smashed and even the bridge connecting both sides of the city will be down for repairs where Godzilla took out his wrath. It's gonna be a crappy Monday in "The City" when people come to work and find their office buildings gone! Plus two industrial chemical storage plants were annihilated spread toxic waste in all directions!

Chronoscope, please keep them coming!
Posted On 08/23/2008 20:09:25
I recently picked up the Nick Stone figure from Reaper. I'm going to use him in Mutant Future as a super soldier wandering the strange and twisted new world. I wish Chronoscope came out years ago. Though it probably would have done me no good as I wasn't at the skill level I am now for painting. Nick tops out at a whopping 1 3/8". Which for the line of figures doesn't make him singular in tallness. I happened to stand the mechanic figure I painted for Jewels from the other day next to him and she is practically the same height. While I like having figures of different sizes and heights I hope not all of them will be beanpoles. But having 7 foot tall genetically altered super soldiers is great!

But my arrow doesn't point to my home town!
Posted On 08/20/2008 16:33:21

Are you having trouble getting your arrow to point to where your actual home town is? I find putting in the Latitude and Longitude helps. If you go to this link and page down to the yellow off-set square and pick your state and city it will come up with the info you need to put in your Profile Settings. Mind you the info they give will cause it to point to the center of your town not where you live exactly. But hopefully it will bring your arrow closer to home.

Hope this helps.

Some new figures for my Dark Heresy campaign.
Posted On 08/20/2008 00:54:39
For Nathan who plays a Tech Priest in DH. I painted this figure that he picked out from my bottomless pile of pewter and lead. As a small reminder of his encounter with the Necrontyr I added a piece of one to the base. Kind of as a grim reminder of the taint the Necron leave on all they encounter.

The Psyker with a sword was made for a player who came from a feudal world, but wasn't able to stick with the game. The pimp'n Psyker is from an Imperial world. With his style'n cane, fancy
psychic hood and over the top plumage he is all the talk on the runway!

GET READY TO CRUMBLE!!!
Posted On 08/17/2008 22:47:26
Today I brought my GMR stuff to the LGS again for some city smashing fun! We got in some excellent hard fought battles with some very well earned kills!!!
The game started today with Jim and I facing off resp
ectively with Ogrethulhu and Mechagodzilla 2. Mg went down but not before battering the corrupted Ogre. Soon Biolante strode onto the battlefield and charged the massive war machine! While they duked it out King Ghidorah landed on the south edge of town and started to perform urban renewal all the while working his way north. Soon the close combat between Biolante and Ogrethulhu was interrupted as Ghidorah charged them. Back and forth the three battled and blasted with Ghidorah the next to fall. From the Eastern edge of town emerged the dreaded Mecha King Ghidorah to challenge the two combatants. He along with Ogrethulhu felled the mighty Biolante. Again from the east side of town a new monster emerged, Godzilla 2000! He quickly went to work on Mecha King Ghidorah tearing and blasting him apart like a Tinker Toy in a shit-storm. Finally the nearly indomitable Orgethulhu was toppled by Godzilla 2000. As the smoke cleared the military moved in to clear out the bodies of the fallen monsters. Surveying the severely devastated town G-2000 spotted his mortal foe Gamera landing on the edge of the north west side of the city. Quickly the two closed blasting away with each other with fireballs and atomic breath. As they met claw to tooth combat ensued. G-2000 managed to toss the shelled monster into a few skyscrapers toppling them in the process. Battered and broken the mighty terrapin came crashing to the ground after a final viscous round of melee combat.

You can see more photos of the battle here. Look on page 2.

This week on Dark Heresy Theater.
Posted On 08/17/2008 22:32:56

This week was a short game as most of the time was taken up with shopping and research early in the session.

The episode opens with the Dutiful Vengeance coming out of the Warp near the Forge
World Belacane. They they were able to witness the Fleet of Thule returned from one of it's ten year journeys to the farthest reaches of the Segmentum Pacificus. Everything from massive battleships down to troop carriers was parked all around the system. Slowly the ships were rotating in, to dock with that space station over the Forge World.
Once docked the acolytes went about shopping while the Tech Priest went to do research and catch up with an old colleague from his home Forge World of Turanshush. After so small talk his friend Zarkov presented him with a damaged servo arm from a dec
eased apprentice. Meanwhile the rest of the party ofter their ship for cargo transporting. Taking the new prize and meeting up with the rest of the party they were soon contacted to bring 40 tons of supplies to an outpost on the frontier world of Calistra.
The trip there was mostly uneventful till the Tech Priest set off a ammunition project in his workshop. Soon after the muffled WOMP! he emerged blacked from the waster up.
After landing on the devastated world of Calistra they loading up the vehicles lent with the cargo and slowly progressed into the ruined city. Within two blocks of the encampment a small gang of the Techno Barbarians charged out to attack. While battling out with them four strangely armored soldiers appeared out of bright blue
flashes of light. The party, keeping an eye on the new arrivals, continued to battle the savages. Quickly the new warriors moved in and assisted the heroes in dispatching the villains. With all the blood spilled in combat soon giant sewer rats were draw to the offering of fresh meat. Finishing with the Techno Barbarians they moved on to dispatch the rodents.
Soon the battle was over. The new arrivals passed b
y the heroes and saluted offers a few words in a strangely foreign language. Quickly the strange left and the heros finished delivering their cargo to the Tech Priest camp.
Upon returning to their ship they spotted a strange ship lifting off and heading to orbit. Quickly the took off after it in pursuit. Quickly they caught up with the ship as it headed towards a space hulk slowly emerging from the warp. Before the Merc could tell the pilot to hold back, the Tech Priest order him to follow them in. From a crevasse in the mish-mash of asteroids, ships and space junk emerged a long column with a massive sphere on top
. Sparking fingers of lightening arced out from the tower and surrounded the ship in a tractor beam.
Or scene closes as the acolyte ship is drawn into one of the gaping bays of the massive Space Hulk.

What will the heroes find on board? How do they defeat the tractor beam? Where is the Space Hulk going? Those any many more questions will be answered next time!

Some utility and work robots
Posted On 08/14/2008 21:51:54

Went by the LGS today and saw the new Tool Bots( 50015) from Reaper and they are Su-weeeeet! So I picked them up for S&Gs. Besides what's one more blister of miniatures going to hurt? So I quickly went home to assemble them and finish up the two A.U. Utility Bots I've been puttering around with. Hopefully next week I will be able to slap some paint on these guys. While these guys have no stats for the tabletop game I sometimes like to flesh out stuff as little side projects.
I also picked up Nick Stone and Willy Brassbender yesterday. I'm thinking they will make great Dark Heresy figures or heroes for any other sci-fi RPGs I might get to play in. That Nick stone figure is a big guy too! He stands nearly a head taller than my old pewter Chaos Terminators! He's like 7 or 8 feet tall in scale. But it works for me since he is probably a genetically altered super soldier.

Giant Monster Rampage at the LGS!!!
Posted On 08/10/2008 19:34:15
Today we had a butt-kicking good time at Adventures in Gaming!!! We started out small with Jim and I duking it out. Next Dave joined and then soon 5 more people shortly after!!! Unfortunately my old stand by King Ghidorah went down in a hail of fire from Ogrethulhu. Also Mechagodzilla, Biolante, Godzilla 2000, Meltdown Godzilla, Gamera (Heisei era), Space Godzilla and Cthulhu showed up to stomp the town. Unfortunately we had to wrap up at 5pm so the battle went mostly unfinished. One highlight of the game was getting to draw first blood on Gamera with Meltdown Godzilla!!! So for the next few weekends I will be bringing all the stuff down to the shop. Only next time we'll be playing in the downstairs so we can play after the upstairs closes and really tear it up!!!
