Alright everyone, Poxo here, and I would like to put out there that I would like to do a Dark Heresy Play by Post game. I put an ad on the forum about a week ago and seems I have only gotten one reply. I am just figuring people just don't look there that often, so I announcing it here! One reason I am doing it is because all I see is D20 stuff so I want to get something else in the mix. Another reason being Dark Heresy is an awesome and well done system that I don't see to much of. For those of you who are like what the hell is Dark Heresy? It is really simple. At the very core one could simply call it Call of Cthulu with bigger guns! It is a percentile based roleplaying game set in the 41st millennium of Warhammer 40,000. Players play acolytes to an inquisitor and it is their job to do investigation into cultists, demons, and xenos influences. Don't think it is pure investigation as this is were the bigger guns comes in as it is usually the acolytes job to combat such things before it gets to big. Though don't think that just because the guns are bigger that you will survive because the enemies have bigger guns as well. Well anyways, I havn't put in a request yet for a forum, trying to see if I can get players first. So far it is just Zeroed. If you know the system you can make your own character if you want otherwise I will make pre-gens to pick from. You can either post here, on the forums or send me a tell to let me know if your interested.
All right, all right me again.TIme for an update. Just been without time and been lazy. That party lasted 2 months! I think a record with me. It kind of hit a dead spot when a thunder guide/bard rolled a natural 20 on a bluff check and stated "Lets go to the Mournlands, All adventures start in the Mournlands." A minute later and a scroll of teleportation they were in the mournlands. A place were magic doesnt work right and no healing magic works at all. Then came the next party a batman type character, a half dalkyer ranger/psion, and a paladin working on becoming a bone knight at level 5. They started in Storm Reach the city of pirates and gate way to Xen'drek. They last about 2 weeks before dying to a cr 6 warforged scorpian (construct). Going 2 for 2 on party wipes the group decided to switch to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. We will see how that will turn out.
That's right folks Im off to Eberron! That not so old 3.5 setting that is full of that action and intrigue of cinematic adventure. Well then again I think most settings boast such ideals but hey what fun is it not to boast? Well down to the non boasting stuff, I more or less got volenteered to run a 3.5 Eberron game on friday nights down at the game castle. The hope from the people that volenteered me for it is to run an ongoing game not one that my players seem to have going for them of usual of play for a week or two then not show up anymore. Makes me wonder if I'm just not good at this thing. Well anyways a little of advertising then to the fluff of whats going on. I currently only have 2 players and looking for 2-4 more people who will show up. Alright sorry just needed to put that out there in hopes I might attract someone to come and join. Well as I tried to do last time I wanted to run a long game I'm going to write up stories for each adventure. If your someone who read my last ones and wondered what happened well its as I said earlier. People showed up for a week then it ended. Well on to good stuff. Our first character is that of a Valenar Elf, a revenant Blade by the name of Jamall Threnell. His stead an awakened Valenar Horse that named itself Vadallia. The second character a Talenta Plains Halfing, a Paladin by the name of Pimal. His mount a clawfoot dinosaur called Brother Hooks. Each expiranced in the saddle and longstanding friends.
Well I got to play through a part of the first setting for 4th ed. Over all I would have to say it will be an interesting one. They really dumbed down the skills making them really generic. I am liking how they did the abilities. Really my opinion made it made it a little easier then in 3/3.5.There was still I don't fully see how they made the whole system easier but from what I could tell once you got the lower level stuff worked out it will both scale easily and for the most part stay the same. It also seemed that if you can for the most part stay alive for along time. As long as you can play your tactics right. The minion thing is cool. Now you can do massive battles and make it seem a lot like a movie or book where you just one shot all the minions. Though it looks to balance that out they upped the hp of all the other things. Kobolds with 35 hp! All in all I say I would like to see the rest of it. I also hope they bring back the Warmage.
ALright back to the juicy bits of fluff for my End of Days setting. The first setting in which the both the story and the party will start in is what was Boston Mass. The better part of the city is abandoned. Parts have began to fall in to the ocean as it moves to reclaim the land fill While the entire area around it has turned into a desert. An unexplained bit is that in the desert it reaches tempretures of 130 on average while in the city it avereges 70-80. All the buildings in the city are mere skeletons of what the used to be. There is still many items amongst the ruins. The whole city is green how ever as vines have grown up and claimed most surfaces. The survivors of the area have claimed the south western portion of the city. They have built up a wall around a few blocks to keep out the montsers that have claimed the rest of the city. Ill get more on thier specifics later both monsters and survivors.
Alright so last time I presented the intro/summery/history bit. This time I am just going to go over simple stuff of system and such. For those of you just interested in the fluff bits just go ahead and skip this one. I am just going to rattle on what i settled on. I did say that these will be as much as informing those around me as notes for myself. Well this is one of those more for myself ones. As all ways comments and suggestions are always welcome! SO the question is what system it will work in? I needed something generic or close to being generic with little conversion to reduce time. I needed something that handles magic as well as mutants and technology. Out of the systems I own that narrows it down to Savage Worlds, BESM, and GURPS. Now Savage Worlds is a quick and fun system it really is to simplistic and not really as much customization. SO that nicked that one. BESM is a great system with a heavy overtone of anime and cinematic feel to it. GURPS is chuck full of options and customization with a realistic gritty feel to it. It was a tough call between the two and almost ended on a flip but I finally settled on the more realistic one and went with GURPS. Next came character level for them. The characters have been surviving for the past 10 years in a new world were safety has been shattered. So keeping that in mind I went for the level of someone would find a spec op and such sitting on. The 150 character points with a 75 disability cap sounded just about right. With there being only one plane of existence I have disallowed any of the multi-plane stuff. Pretty much most of the other stuff is allowed save for the higher powers playing with your result stuff such as destinies. Well that is pretty much it for this time, Till next time, Peace!
I have been attempting to Dm games now for about 5 months. I have to say I am not the greatest at it but I am slowly getting better. I have been mainly running pre-made settings. I currently went on a slight break to let someone else run a game on the day I run games and I have decided to run my own setting next time around and actually have a full setting ready to go for when it is my turn again. Now this is actually motivating me to actually fully flesh out one of my story ideas. It gives me little bit of hope in that 1 my players will actually be consistent, 2 I actually finish a story for a change, and 3 I can actually get a long standing campaign going. If have the idea of using my blog as an aid to keep things recorded but whether or not I keep doing it is.. well... a little foggy. Now the first session of that game is not for at least another month but until then I will try to post descriptions and such then actually write a story along with the campaign. Feel free to criticize all you want because it will aid me. Though I must say if you say you heard this type of story you can just shove off because in truth there is only like 5 different stories anyways. Well Anyways here is the first bit. Most would call it the summery of the history well thats about accurate. Now keep in mind the first session will be set roughly 14 years in the future which is 10 years after the event. End of Days (Working Title) The earth is in a degenerating state of a post apocalyptic world. An unexplainable event occurred that that changed the world. The sky sparkled from unknown energies as it darkened. Fire poured down instead of rain. It baffled modern science as the fire was green and did not burn anyone just the earth it struck. It lasted for weeks with no real end in sight. Then an event that became known as The End of Days occurred. The all the clouds began to swirl and gather at a single point on the globe over South America. Energy readings skyrocketed as it seemed to build on this one nexus. Once the very air it self became saturated with so much energy that felt like you were walking through soup, a comet of pure energy appeared. It slammed hard in to the surface of the earth and the shockwaves could be felt anywhere on the planet. Buildings buckled and glass shattered as the earth shifted. Most of the earth’s population died as the landscapes changed and cities crumbled. Those who survived were left to crawl out of the debris into a changed world. Climates were changed as weather flip flopped, creatures mutated, forests grew sentient, the dead did not stay dead for long, and humans were no longer top of the food chain. Humans were changed too as most did not stay the same. Some mutated while some became bestial. Some found themselves able to wield the very energies that brought the destruction of the world they knew. Though, it did not mater who you were as the survival instinct kicked in for everyone. Most people banded together into gangs that preyed on the weak or clans that protected. There was even some that remained stubborn in their old ways and remained alone. It is now ten years after the end of days and what little of the old world has been scavenged as humanity tries to take back its old. Small frontier like towns has appeared where old civilized cities or towns used to be. People have come to accept the animal crossbreeds or mages or mutants. Nothing has changed however in the popular mind set of survival of the fittest.
I love playing games because I love stories and the fluff for things. I love playing role playing games because of the level of immersion one can get into for games. I was always one of those nerds in the back of the class either reading or writing their own adventure. Which is probably a minor note that probably even my friends do not know about me is that I love to right. I am most likely not the greatest of writers but I improve little by little over time. I actually have a goal, dream, ambition, or what ever you want to call it to publish a book or something whether it is a story that I have actually completed or the countless stories that I have not completed as a compiled book. Unfortunately it is something I do not see happening anytime soon. But I get off topic... As much as I love to do stories I find myself falling in to the catagory of the "Half-Orc Barbarian" type were smash em up good is the best stratagy for me. The thing being my mind is not that fast usually and while I try to actually think of something good most of the party has moved on or I am holding them up. Thats when I just fall in to the smash phase. I am even the type that tries to play a smart type character but end up fudging it up some where with my slower wit. Granted one can say that a smash character can still have just as a good story as a smart character, I am usually not the one to find the right story. So As much as I would love to claim myself as a storyteller type player I am more of a hack-and-slash, munchkin that will look for a powerful smash attack and look for my biggest loot as I crack heads. And if you feel lost reading this, hehe it is just something else I need to work on as I continue my practice as a slow but strong witted story writer.
