Political posts will no longer be allowed on RPGBOMB
Posted On: 09/21/2008 19:37:42

After a discussion at today business meeting it has been decided that posts of a political nature will not be allowed on RPGBOMB. We do not feel that anyone has done anything wrong. We find that politics polarizes people and can make for an unfriendly environment. Most people come to our site to escape the constant prattle of the real world and it is our opinion that these political posts drives some people away. RPGBOMB has become a great community site where everyone seems to get along. At least it is that way so far. It is our strong desire to keep it that way.

Thank you,

Staff

Sorry you feel that way. We knew not everyone would take it well.
They are Google ads. Perhaps you will do your research next time.  The Google service is called Ad sense. It
allows websites to have the majority of their ads come from one source. This
way you don’t have to go out and find advertising they can come to you. To date
we have taken no money from Google ad sense as we are still working out the
kinks of our ad software.

You may have missed it but during the democrat primary long
after the republican primaries were over all we hade was Clinton and Obama ads.
Google controls what and who appears for ads. While it is true we can turn off cretin
advertisers we have not done so.

As for your comments about the rest of my post it’s obvious
that your assertions are unfounded. I will let the readers be the judge of
that. We will not let a few people ruin the site for everyone else.

I hope you find what it is your looking for. Good luck.

I have not expressed any beliefs, beyond that of letting other people say what they want is something I think is important.

The first political adds were not google adds. Obama adds have not appeared here. I frankly don't care. I just pointed out the lack of actual impartiality shown here already by someone.

Nor have I been I been dishonest in any way. I asked a question to garner what boundaries constituted politics. Question my honesty though, and I get urges to express psychobabble about your level of comfort on dealing with anything but an echo chamber to your "decrees." If you must have the last word here, please do, I'm done. I raised my points while such things can be posted in the Blog area.

And Obliviax, you might have missed the humor in my comments. Let's not go 9-11 here.

Hahahhaah...Yea, we know that McCain and 4th Ed are secretly funding this site and trying to keep the vegan, indie gamers down!

Srzly, while I agree that politics don’t really belong here, I dislike the idea of an out-and-out ban on any political posts.

Thanks for your post and thanks for keeping it light.  Me I'm a meatetarian.

honestly and intelligently keep it to the forums rather than the blogs,

moderate it in a way the flaming is not permited, and make it clear to

the membership that it should be kept civil. Politics within gaming

should be open for discussion, as I'm sure it is, but most people game

to escape reality, albeit for a little while.

And on topic of free speech, that exists out in the world, in private business, they can moderate however the please.

One final note... Pikachu for President 2008!

LOL, your funny!

I have a couple of reasons I think this is a bad idea.

You guys have accepted money from either the McCain organization or a ardent supporter of him to advertise here. A poll here shows that most of us willing to speak up aren't voting planning on voting for him. Someone mentions fact checking and that seems to be the straw. Now it's bad form to discuss politics? My opinion is that we are in a political season, this is a social networking site, some people want to talk politics right about now.

Secondly, where does the "politic" end? Some of us aren't Christian. Some of us aren't vegetarian. Some of us like 4th edition. Some of us, me especially, make metaphorical allusions with popular pieces of fantasy of this or that milieu. This broad sweeping proclamation is going to open the door for this or that person, maybe group, to lable someone else's opinion too political, while other rather political indviduals, or cliques, will be tolerated.

As I don't like people who just complain, I suggest recanting the mandate and not accepting those who break the norms of tolerance, taste, and good nature that we here at the Bomb have established without that much threatened censorship.Free speach is an essential part of keeping an internet site fresh and dynamic. You've started a march towards staid conversation, not even giving people a chance to overcome distracting differences on their own.

With all due respect to you and your beliefs. Your email illustrates
the exact reason we have taken the necessary step to remove politics from the
site. People make assumptions that are just not correct. When people or
organizations are misrepresented they way you did by accusing us of taking money
from the McCain campaign it is offensive and then necessitates  a response to set the record straight. Which
will in turn likely enflame your emotions and a response from you.

RPGBOMB does not, has not, and will not formally support either
presidential candidate. The ads you see are Google ads. We have had just as
many Obamma ads as we have McCain ads and we have not received payment from Google
for any of these ads.

It is intellectually dishonest to compare religion or dietary
habits to the presidential politics that have been discussed on the site and if
someone started proselytizing either of these topics they would be told to
stop. I have not seen one post about one religion being better or worse than another.
In fact the only conversations about religion have been specifically gaming
related and how some use religion to attack gamers

People come to this site to hear about gaming. Not about politics.
For the record there is no such thing as freedom of speech. It’s called freedom
of political speech and that only applies to the government. Privet organization
my restrict speach as they see fit.

We are a niche social site our is topics are gaming. We keep
an open forum for off topic subject matter. There are those who feel like a captive
audience on the bomb and disagree with some of the political posts and are
afraid to respond for fear of reprisal. They are correct to feel this way. It
is only a matter of time before emotions run high and someone does or says something
stupid. All these post are instantly in your face when you logon. It in not
fair for those people who come here to get away from all that to have to deal
with the political vitriol that some have spewed.

At the request of StupidSmurf I have decided to consider a
forum for politics. It is only because I know him and have great respect for
his opinion that this may happen. This will only happen if I get a lot of
requests from the community at large. There will also be rules governing this
forum and I will need a judicious and fair-minded moderatos as well. This forum
is not a guarantee and if there is not a significant call for it will not
happen. I hope you understand our position in this matter. It is not that we don’t
want people to talk politics we just ask that you find a more appropriate
forum.

That said I wonder what would happen if you posted a gamming
related topic on a political blog? I’m sure they would be very open-minded
about it. Right?
