It’s about 1pm last Sunday and I’m involved in my usual Sunday routine; sleeping off a massive hangover. My slumber is shattered by the high pitched ringing of the telephone, which I answer to find my friends Todd and Allison calling from GenCon.
Me: Uhhh…Hello?
Todd: Dude! Dude! It’s the last day of the con and like everything is half off! Can you recommend anything to get?
Me: I’m doing what now?
Allison: What are some games we should get!?!
After a couple minutes of further explanation and finding a PBR in the fridge, I was able to comprehend exactly what they were wanting of me. Despite the overwhelming urge to recommend the worst games possible (“Brohan, Gygax’s real masterpiece was a little game called ‘Cyborg Commando,’ not D&D. Oh, and I think you’ll really love The World of Synnibarr…”)I ended up recommending Maelstrom, Children of the Sun, and Tunnels and Trolls; all because they are games that I wanted to play. Nothing like tricking your friends into buying games that you want, but don’t want to pay for…
Damn, it’s been a while since I’ve updated.
And, yes, I do call people “brohan”.
