In 1985, 60 Minutes ran a story on the controversy over Dungeons & Dragons that included interviews with Gary Gygax and Dieter Sturm from TSR, as well as anti-RPG pundits Patricia Pulling and Thomas Radecki. This is the second section of the video - be sure to look for the first section, also in my videos
The best point made in the entire video was when he said that parents are looking for anything other than themselves, for the cause of their childrens behaviour. Parents.... Be Parents! Don't blame Marilyn Manson, don't blame Dungeons and Dragons, don't blame Public Schools. Accept your own failings and don't try to spread the failings out to others.
Do I think it at all possible that D&D had an effect on that Suicide/Murder? Of course it's possible. But the cop said a few things of note. The gun was found there. D&D did not provide the gun. Parents, be Parents. The 2 kids played regularly under the tracks. No kid who has a home he can play D&D in, goes and plays under the tracks. Parents, be Parents. It was a shooting, not a "I cast fly and jump off the building.", there's a better chance of shooting someone playing an "innocent" game like Cops and Robbers.
If I had to guess, 2 kids who regularly play D&D found their dad's gun and were showing it off to each other, one got shot, the other killed himself in a fit of temporary insanity. Those same 2 kids probably drank kool-aid every day of their life too, but nobody is blaming the kool-aid.
