MY RATING: 0.00

Authors: Orson Scott Card, Robert Jordan, selected books from the original Dune series, Ursula Le Guin, and damn little of anything since working on my dissertation.

Work, teach, and spent time with my daughters.

NPR

Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Star Trek (Next Gen and Voyager best). I tend to like watching and reading sci-fi but prefer GMing fantasy.

Storyteller

Not much.

Wiz-War, Scrabble, Upwords, or whatever comes along.

Um, no, that's violation of the broccoli philosophy. See, broccoli is both good and good for you, as a side dish; similar to the way that RPG is a side dish to life. However, if you make broccoli the entire dish, you've missed out on many important aspects of nutrition; protein, starch, sugars. To me (and I understand and respect that opinions will differ) but to me, LARPing would violate the broccoli philosophy.

D&D 3e, GURPS, Shadowrun, and most recently Fudge.

Mostly Munchkin

No

As a GM:
First, I can't GM evil, annoying, or mean PCs. I can't stand the idea of rewarding immoral actions even if those actions take place in an imaginary world.
Second, I don't like, and am not really good at, prepping for the crunchy details. One guy in my groups can GM a D&D creature with 3 templates, weird feat combos from obscure source books and make it all work. Me, I'm lucky if I GM the GURPS 3e flying rules right (and I didn't in the last session I GMed).

As a player:
I like interesting and diverse character interactions. I like it when the PCs have to deal with an unpleasant person and change the reaction deliberately. I like when the PCs turn an enemy into a friend rather than just whack the guy. As a player, I've enjoyed playing many different characters but they're all basically good.

I had hoarded some D&D books through high school and college but never really played. My first character I made as an adult. He had a Russian accent, developed in a lot of ways, and finally languished in an unfinished campaign. At the time I was accused of doing things out of character when I tried to help the story go along. Now I see that I'm just a storyteller style player. I'll adapt my character to the world so that the story can continue. But I'm still trying to play my character; storyteller first, method actor second.

What is your dissertation about?

My dissertation is an analysis of playfulness in adults. I was trying to find out what else might be true of playful people like are they happier overall, do they have personality traits in common? Thanks for the welcome. -zerfinity

Sounds interesting. Have you found anything really surprising in your research?
